Dr. Peter Odili, founder of Pamo University of Medical Sciences, Port-Harcourt
The Governor Of Rivers State, Onyesom Wike has commended elder statement and former Governor of Rivers State, Dr.Peter Otunnuya Odili for establishing Pamo University Of Medical Sciences in the State.
He made this statement at the end of the Matriculation ceremony of the first Private University in the state.
In his words; “It was a delight today to attend the 4th Matriculation Ceremony of Pamo University of Medical Sciences.
“In my remarks at the event i applauded our father and founder of this unique University, H.E Sir, Dr Perter Odili C.O.N GSSRS for taking the bold and tasking step to establish the first private University owned by a Rivers indigene in the state.
“As a former Governor and an accomplished medical doctor It would have been more convenient for him to fully enjoy his retirement with his family in peace but he chose to be of service to humanity and blaze the state’s educational trajectory with Pamo University.
“The promise of education is better life just as no healthcare system can be effective without adequate skilled personnel. Pamo University is bridging the state’s dire need for tertiary medical education and producing skilled personnel to improve the state’s healthcare system.
“We have decided to further support the University with a grant of (N500,000,000) Five Hindred Million Naira to get the necessary infrastructure to propel its growth. We would also continue with our special scholarship scheme which caters for 100 Pamo University Students yearly.
“For us any such profoundly beneficial educational initiative by any Rivers indigene is deserving of government’s support as a deliberate policy”, he concluded.
