History was made yesterday as the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde approved the appointment of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomosoland.
This was made known in a statement issued by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola on Saturday, 2rd of September, 2023.
The announcement followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law and a result of the fierce tussle before the emergence of Pastor Laoye as the chosen one.
The Governor congratulated the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears,” the statement said, thus bringing to an end the controversy over the Soun Ancient stool.
Pastor Ghandi Laoye, a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, is a descendant of the 9th Soun of Ogbomoso, Late Oba Laoye Orumogege from Baiyewuwon ruling house of Aremo House, Ode-Aremo, Ogbomoso.
Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye is the outgoing pastor at The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Washington DC, under the leadership of Pastor Enoch Adeboye. His wife, Pastor Omo, is in charge of the RCCG Jesus House, which is one of the largest Redeemed Churches in America and has gained respect in its community. The church is located in Silver Spring, Maryland, a diverse area known for its ethnic and racial diversity.
Prince Laoye is described as a visionary, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur, who is also popularly known as “Pastor G.”
He was born and raised in Nigeria and holds a degree in English Language and a Masters in Industrial and Labour Relations. He was a successful entrepreneur before answering the call to become a pastor.
Since 1992, Pastor Ghandi has been actively involved in pastoring. He has served in three RCCG churches in Nigeria and also led an RCCG parish in Bonn, Germany before moving to the United States.
