I Owe No One An Apology for Supporting Tinubu in 2023 Election – Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister

President Bola Tinubu

-Says Nigerians Would Have Voted For Peter Obi If He Was Better

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has declared that he owes no one an apology for supporting APC’s Bola Tinubu in the last general election.

Barrister Wike made this statement in an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” programme on Wednesday.

The immediate former Governor of Rivers State also stated he supported the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the expense of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the standard bearer of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the keenly contested poll as a result of his belief that it was the turn of the South to rule after eight years of Buhari.

When asked whether Obi would have handled the major issues confronting the Nigerian economy better than Tinubu if he had been elected, Wike said he doesn’t discuss presidential candidates any longer.

His words: “I don’t want to discuss social media issue. I don’t discuss about presidential candidate any longer; I discuss about the economy, the President, what he has to offer.

“If he (Obi) would have been better, Nigerians would have voted for him.”

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, came third in the election won by APC’s Tinubu.

Mr. Obi of the Labour Party and his PDP counterpart, Atiku Abubakar are in court to challenge the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring Tinubu as winner of the poll.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike also declared that he is not working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Minister averred that he is working for President Bola Tinubu and not the APC.

In his words; “I am not working for APC. I am working for Tinubu who have trust in me to help him deliver the renewed hope”

He stated further; “I owe nobody any apology at all. I was in PDP and I worked for Ahmed Bola Tinubu to become the President of Nigeria.”

Mr. Wike restated that he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and dared the party to suspend him.

He also added that no one in the PDP can discipline him, rather, he should be the one to discipline those who violated the party’s constitution on rotation.

Wike spoke against the background of the crisis that rocked the PDP ahead of the 2023 presidential election in which he and some others popularly known as the G5 Governors worked against the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Mr. Wike in the Channel TV interview mocked the PDP leadership, declaring that the person who wants to suspend him couldn’t produce a Governor or three Senators or Assembly members in his state while he gave the PDP the Governorship seat, State Assembly members as well as National Assembly members in Rivers State
