Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem has advised students to shun violence, drugs, cultism and other vices in order to excel in their academic activities and become useful citizens.
According to him, these vices are capable of derailing their dreams and aspirations to become very great in life.
Dr Ekuwem gave the advice when he led the Commissioner For Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebiet and other senior government official to a special session with students of Uyo High school, Uyo on Tuesday.
He told the students that engaging in vices and street fights with other school students would make them lose focus in life, endanger their lives and could lead to more dangerous outcomes including losing their lives.
In his response, the principal of the school, Mr Michael Iwok thanked the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr Udom Emmanuel represented by the SSG for the kind gesture to specially come to the school to offer words of advice.
He urged the students to obey the fine instructions and words of wisdom given by the state scribe.
Students of Home Economics of the school used the occasion to present 3 pieces of cakes baked as part of their practicals on Tuesday to the Secretary to the state government.
Other officials of government on the entourage included, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Rose Bassey, Directors, Barr Bassey Selong, Mr Selong Selong, Special Assistant to the Governor, New Media, Mr Aniekeme Finbarr and Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT, Engr Solomon Eyo.
